about mismo

Mismo (MEES-moh) means “same” in Spanish.

Mismo Productions was started in 2019 by Mick Torres and Ashley Argota Torres, who are married in real life. Their first project was the Mismo Podcast, where they interview artists and creatives about their day to day lives to show everyone that no matter where you are in your career, we are all uniquely the same. Mick and Ashley host the podcast together and have done almost one hundred interviews. The show currently has more than 15,000 listens and can be found on all podcast platforms.

Mismo Productions also created their first short film, “The Last Flight”, a parody of Michael Jordan’s documentary, “The Last Dance”. It was directed, produced, and edited by Ashley and written, produced, and starring Mick.

One of their most exciting achievements so far was writing a commercial for Taco Bell! They started writing their first screenplay together during quarantine and quickly learned that they were a great writing team. The first feature they wrote together, “The Kindness Of Strangers”, recently won the 2023 Asian American International Screenplay Competition. The movie is based on Ashley’s life and was awarded with a table read in New York City.

Mick and Ashley plan on using Mismo Productions to create films, television shows, and more with each other and their extremely talented friends.

Ashley Argota Torres started performing when she was five years old. She was the youngest performer to win five times in a row at “Amateur Night at the Apollo”, which led to her becoming a Star of Tomorrow at “Showtime at the Apollo”. At only eleven years old, she toured in Disney’s hit Broadway musical, “The Lion King”, as Young Nala. She is best known for her work on Nickelodeon and Disney Channel on shows such as “True Jackson, VP”, “How To Build A Better Boy”, “Lab Rats”, and Freeform’s “The Fosters”. In between filming, she can be seen performing live on stage in Los Angeles, CA. Ashley has also spent time on the other side of the camera, producing and casting a web series (“Spies In Training”) and directing, producing and editing Mismo Productions’ first short film, “The Last Flight”, a parody of Michael Jordan’s “The Last Dance” documentary. Mismo Productions also has a podcast, which Ashley hosts with her husband, Mick. The two are also writing and creating film and television scripts together. She can currently be seen on The CW’s “All American” as Gia and on Netflix’s “Freeridge” as Davina.

Ashley is a proud member of the Advisory Committee for The Actor’s Find’s Looking Ahead Program. She is also Taco Bell’s number one fan. Go Lakers!

Mick Torres has a BA in Theatre from USC. His breakout performance as RP McMurphy in “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” garnered much attention, with Broadway World nominating him for Best Actor, and also saying, “...ultimately, it is Mick Torres’ attention grabbing interpretation of McMurphy... who will keep you talking about this immersive experience for a long time to come.” Immediately after his award-winning performance, he played the Baker in a found-instrument production of “Into The Woods”. He made his network debut on CBS shortly after that on “Pink Collar Crimes” and recently shot a short film with members of the Groundlings Sunday Company called, “Swimsuit”. Mick was a producer for After Hours Theatre’s productions of “One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest” and “The Last Five Years”. Mick has been writing for years and pitched his pilot, “Best Of The Best” to Fox. He also wrote and produced Mismo Productions’ first short film, “The Last Flight”, a parody of Michael Jordan’s “The Last Dance” documentary. Mick hosts Mismo Productions’ podcast with his wife, Ashley. They are also writing and creating television and film scripts together.

Mick still calls his parents every night. Go Yankees!
